08:00 PM Valerie Day & Darrell Grant

Valerie Day...Gifted singer, skilled percussionist. Valerie is an artist of rare talent and dedication. She has performed and recorded with a wide spectrum of artists ranging from the Oregon Symphony Pops to guitartist Dan Balmer, pianist Michael Allen Harrison and David Frishberg.  Dynamic and self assured, Valerie has been nominated for a Best New Artist Grammy for her work with the 80's pop/R&B sensation NU SHOOZ.

Darrell Grant, performer, composer and PSU professor, has built an international reputation as a stellar pianist and versatile musician.  A gifted artist whose four previous recordings have topped jazz charts, Darrell explores the lyricism and soul of songs with beauty, joy and passion.  He has appeared on major concert stages from the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall to the Monterey, Telluride and San Francisco Jazz Festivals.  He has been a guest on Marian McPartland's "Piano Jazz" on NPR and toured internationally with many jazz legends.

Brain Chemistry for Lovers  is the brain-child of singer Valerie Day.

Inspired by a National Geographic article about love and the chemicals in the brain, Valerie conceived a performance piece that takes on this universal theme, with a twist - the performance incorporates the discoveries of today's neuro-scientists, who are finally crossing into the territory of the poet, the philosopher, the songwriter, (and the comedian!) to explain the feelings associated with Romantic Love.

Brain Chemistry for Lovers considers the stages of a relationship (lust, attraction, attachment and or rejection), connects them to the brain chemicals occurring in each stage and then express each through familiar selections of American popular song.
